Modern Toll Collection Based On The RFID Technology
The drawbacks in most current ETC (electronic toll collection systems) have been forcing people to wait in long queues,
every day the many people waste their precious time at the tollgates. The
traditional, even those are based on information technology; use some manual
methods that are being used to collect road tolls.
Though, the transportation infrastructures are
the driving force behind a country's economic growth. Traffic congestion is one
of the modern problems the world is facing for a while.
Besides, an increasing number of commuters have
been following many problems due to the rising population around the world.
Also, the strong transport demand is pushing the existing transport
infrastructure resulting in tremendous road pollution as well as impacting the
atmosphere and human life due to emissions of diesel.
An electronic toll collection system based on RFID solutions is proposed to address the above-mentioned problems. The
interconnected network consists of two main parts, electronic sides, and
others, where all input data is stored.
Solving the
problem with RFID Technology
Given the nature of the RFID technologies used
to identify positions and items, RFID was commonly used to detect the presence
of marked objects and individuals in many locations. The benefit of RFID
includes the uses of non-touch recognition, long-distance connection and the
ability to scan hundreds of tags in challenging conditions.
The modern ETC systems have implemented the
technologies that enable the identification of vehicles passing through the
toll gate and pick those who are not eligible using different technologies like
RFID, automatic plate recognition and recognition of optical character.
Therefore, several researchers are seeking to
improve the online collection of tools to get rid of toll road delays and to
improve the safety in transport and the quality of the environment.
Conclusion
This RFID utilizes the cloud-based
infrastructure to store data. This data can be used by a central office to
recognize the exception in the process of electronic toll collection systems.
Moreover, the barrier system has also evolved where gates remain open that can
pass the vehicles with the tags as well as reduce the stop time.
